BackFourth-year Communication students successfully conducted their seminar titled “Behind the Microphone: A Seminar on Radio DJ and Broadcasting Essentials” on Feb. 11, 2026, at the CASS Theater Room.
Organized by Carlo Mercado, Trixie Jurado, Francine Malayo, Alyssa Gelacio, John Laurence Alvarez, and Paul Loreña, the group became the first among their batch to conduct a seminar.
The seminar equipped aspiring broadcasters with the skills and knowledge needed in the field of radio. The group discussed key topics such as voice and on-air performance skills, basic technical operations, interview and live hosting skills, ethics, professionalism and standards, as well as personal branding and career development.
The event featured Mr. Arvin Cabrera, radio DJ and head of operations at Radio Pilipino Media Group, as the resource speaker. Opening his talk with the words, “You’ve got to have a heart, skills, and passion,” Mr. Cabrera emphasized that success in broadcasting goes beyond having a good voice. He highlighted the importance of proper education and training, continuously developing one’s skills, and gaining hands-on experience.
Drawing from his 29 years in the industry, Mr. Cabrera shared valuable insights and real-life experiences, inspiring students to pursue excellence behind the microphone. The seminar served as both a learning opportunity and a motivation for future broadcasters to hone their craft and build meaningful careers in radio.
