BackBA Communication 2-1 EVE students organized a fire safety awareness initiative titled “Commaraderie in Crisis: Empowering Pura Community with Fire Safety Awareness” on May 21,2024. The activity was conducted in collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Pura, Tarlac, as part of their course in Risk, Disaster, and Humanitarian Communication.
Senior Inspector Teofilo S. Benabese, Jr. opened the program by expressing gratitude to those involved in the initiative, including faculty-in-charge Mr. Derich D. Bognot, Mayor Ms. Mariela Astrero, and the entire class. He also provided an overview of the day’s discussions and activities.
As part of their contribution, the students developed fire safety communication materials for BFP Pura, including a jingle, infomercial, and posters. These outputs were presented through an audio-visual showcase and explained by Ryan Vistan. The materials were then formally turned over to SFO3 Emma Ruth Mayoyo and Senior Inspector Teofilo S. Benabese, Jr.
Senior Inspector Benabese proceeded with a lecture covering fire education and inspection, chemical reactions that may cause fires, and pertinent provisions of the Revised Penal Code. The afternoon session focused on the concept of arson, further deepening participants’ understanding of fire-related incidents.
A practical exercise on crime scene investigation followed, where BFP Pura interns from Saint Rose College and BA Communication 2-1 EVE students were grouped into three teams. The interns led the activity, sharing their investigative approaches and field-based knowledge.
As the seminar concluded, Mayor Astrero conveyed her appreciation to Mr. Bognot for his guidance and acknowledged the commitment of the class, BFP Pura personnel, and the interns. She underscored the importance of applying the knowledge gained to help build a safer community in Tarlac, encouraging continued collaboration among stakeholders.
