The College of Arts and Social Sciences of Tarlac State University, through its AB Communication program, successfully conducted an Intensive Training and Coaching on Campus Journalism for student participants from Balibago Primero Integrated School on January 16–17, 2025. The two-day activity was held at the Theater Room of CASS as part of the College’s continuing extension and community engagement initiatives. Organized by esteemed faculty members of the Communication Department, the workshop aimed to equip students with fundamental knowledge and practical skills across various fields of campus journalism. The training sessions covered feature writing, desktop publishing, sports writing, photojournalism, science and technology writing, copyreading and headline writing, radio broadcasting, and editorial cartooning. The initiative reinforced the University’s commitment to promoting responsible journalism and strengthening media literacy among young learners. Participants actively engaged in hands-on workshops, interactive discussions, and applied exercises designed to enhance both technical competence and creative expression. The activity was spearheaded by Prof. Maria Fermina C. Nucum, Department Chair, together with expert service providers: Mr. Derich D. Bognot, Mr. Marco Polo M. Flores, Mr. Mark Alyson A. Madriaga, Ms. Ma. Teresa D. Madriaga, Mr. Jovito Z. Taruc, Mr. Dale Calvin D. Castañeda, and Prof. Nerissa S. Olarte. Through this initiative, CASS continues to empower student-journalists by nurturing critical thinking, ethical reporting, and excellence in campus media practice. |
