BackOn January 13, 2024, Tarlac Central–A District hosted the Campus Journalism: District Schools Press Conference at San Nicolas Elementary School, an event designed to sharpen the journalistic skills of students while fostering collaboration and learning.
The conference was led by the Department of Communication of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS–Comm Dept) of Tarlac State University, with faculty members Asst. Prof. Jazzel Llaneli M. Manabat, Mr. Marco Polo M. Flores, Mr. Jovito Z. Taruc, Ms. Sherlaine D. Banaag, Ms. Ma. Teresa D. Madriaga, and Mr. Bonjoebee R. Bello providing guidance and mentorship. The program introduced students to core journalism principles and focused on developing research, writing, and communication skills, including interview techniques and ethical reporting practices.
The event exceeded expectations, drawing 242 participants instead of the projected 180, highlighting the enthusiasm and interest of students in campus journalism. Renowned journalists, media experts, and influential speakers shared insights and experiences, providing mentorship and practical guidance to the young learners.
By the conclusion of the conference, students were equipped with enhanced skills, knowledge, and confidence to navigate the world of journalism. The Tarlac Central–A District Schools Press Conference underscores the vital role of the CASS–Comm Dept in empowering the next generation of ethical and competent student journalists through hands-on, mentorship-driven extension programs.
