BackIn line with the celebration of ASEAN Week, the Tarlac State University (TSU) Office of International Affairs and Linkages (OIAL), in collaboration with the College of Public Administration and Governance and the School of Law, hosted an ASEAN Debate on ASEAN Issues on September 28, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the CASS Theater Room, TSU Main Campus.
The event aimed to enhance students’ awareness of key regional issues affecting member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) while promoting critical thinking, diplomacy, and public speaking skills among participants.
Representing the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), Ms. Jael Tabanao, a BA Communication student (2A), together with her teammates Mr. Joshua Emil Sacalamitao of the English and Literature Studies Department and Mr. Isaac Pascua of the Psychology Department, emerged as Champions of the debate competition. The CASS team bested representatives from other TSU colleges after a series of rounds tackling pressing ASEAN-related issues.
The judges commended the winning team for their strong arguments, clarity of presentation, and in-depth understanding of international and socio-political concerns.
The Department of Communication and the TSU Communicators’ Guild extended their congratulations to Ms. Tabanao for her exemplary performance and contribution to the team’s success, bringing pride to the college and highlighting the communication students’ growing competence in discourse and leadership.
