BackSophomore communication students of Tarlac State University (TSU), section 2-3 Eve, organized a social mobilization project for the residents of Sitio Agus, Brgy. Burgos, San Jose, Tarlac, last December 20.
Embodying the theme "COMM-usbong: Komunidad na Luntian, Sama-samang Isulong," and focussing on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger, the students conducted a seminar on sustainable farming for adults and a storytelling session on the importance of farming to the children.
To ensure the community could begin cultivating their own sustainable food sources, the class donated farming tools and ready-to-plant seedlings. Additionally, the distribution of food packs and gift giving were also available to bring the seasonal cheer to the community.
Meanwhile, Ms. Erika Rose David the overall project head of Comm 2-3 Eve shared in a phone interview how the class selected this specific initiative.
"Nakita namin na food insecurity is still a real problem sa community. Nagkaroon din po kami ng discussion and observation sa community, and doon namin na-realize na mas meaningful kung yung project namin ay may direct impact sa pang-araw-araw na pangangallangan ng mga tao, kaya doon kami nag-focus," Ms. David expressed.
The program ended as a success, helping the Sitio Agus community establish a foundation for long-term food security and self-reliance.
