On March 5, 2024, the Project Aytalakad Ing Lahi conducted its Orientation and Social Preparation Part II at Sitio Manabayukan, Capas, Tarlac, as part of its ongoing efforts to preserve the language and culture of the Aeta Mag-Anchi community. The event brought together community teachers, elders, and youth at Manabayukan Elementary School to participate in discussions and activities central to cultural revitalization and empowerment. The program was led by Project Head Dr. Francelle L. Calub and supported by Component Heads Dr. Myrel M. Santiago, Prof. Rodel P. Macasaquit, Ms. Jay Ann L. Pablo, and Mr. Rolien Mark M. Balisi. Notably, two faculty members from the Department of Communication, College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS–Comm Dept), Ms. Ma. Teresa D. Madriaga and Ms. Jay Ann L. Pablo, served as Technical Facilitators, ensuring the effective documentation, media production, and communication strategies necessary for the success of the project. As part of the orientation, Dr. Myrel M. Santiago, component head for Training on Culture-Based Curriculum Development, conducted in-depth interviews with community members to ensure educational programs are culturally grounded. Mr. Rolien Mark M. Balisi, component head for Language Documentation, discussed the importance of documenting and preserving endangered languages, emphasizing the role of intergenerational transmission and the creation of resources for curriculum development and teaching. The Culturally Relevant Media Component, facilitated by Ms. Pablo and Ms. Madriaga, documented traditional practices, oral histories, and artistic expressions through videos, photographs, and digital storytelling. This component empowered the Aeta Mag-Anchi community to preserve their heritage, amplify their voices, and share their cultural legacy with future generations. Finally, Prof. Rodel P. Macasaquit led the Arts and Sports component, engaging in culturally sensitive consultations to plan activities that respect traditions and align with community interests. The orientation marked a significant milestone for Project Aytalakad Ing Lahi and Sitio Manabayukan, symbolizing the journey toward a more resilient, self-sufficient, and culturally vibrant community. The project also expressed its gratitude to the Local Government Unit of Capas for their support and generosity. |
