Shaping Young Journalists: Communication Department Faculty Conducts Intensive Training and Coaching for Bayanihan Institute Students

The College of Arts and Social Sciences – Department of Communication of Tarlac State University successfully conducted an Intensive Training and Coaching on Campus Journalism for students of Bayanihan Institute on September 9 and 11, 2025, at the Radio Room and Theater Room of the CASS Building.

The College of Arts and Social Sciences – Department of Communication of Tarlac State University successfully conducted an Intensive Training and Coaching on Campus Journalism for students of Bayanihan Institute on September 9 and 11, 2025, at the Radio Room and Theater Room of the CASS Building. 

This 16-hour workshop was designed to prepare participants for the upcoming Tarlac City Private Educational Institutions Association (TCPEIA) Press Conference scheduled for September 13 and 19, 2025.


The initiative focused on enhancing students’ skills in news writing, feature writing, and broadcast journalism. Participants were trained in proper journalistic standards and ethics, scriptwriting, voice delivery, and presentation for broadcast reporting. The sessions also emphasized information gathering, verification, and analytical skills to ensure accurate and responsible reporting. Through interactive coaching and hands-on exercises, students gained confidence in producing campus publications and broadcast outputs while strengthening teamwork and collaboration.


The intensive training and mentorship were provided by esteemed faculty members of the Communication Department, including Asst. Prof. Maria Fermina Joyce C. Nucum, Ms. Remar A. Salvador, Ms. Sherlaine D. Banaag, Asst. Prof. Nerissa S. Olarte, Mr. Darren Dee I. Alimurong, Mr. Louel Gray S. Tecson, Mr. Marco Polo M. Flores, Mr. Jovito Z. Taruc, Ms. Angel C. Saludez, Mr. John H. Lanuzo, and Mr. Dale Calvin D. Castañeda. Their guidance equipped students with practical knowledge, technical skills, and ethical foundations essential for responsible and effective campus journalism.


This activity underscores CASS’s commitment to long-term extension services that empower young learners, promote media literacy, and nurture the next generation of competent and conscientious student journalists.
