Communication students from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) of Tarlac State University (TSU) once again showcased their versatility and artistry after achieving multiple victories across various competitions during the TSU 119th Founding Anniversary celebration held from October 13–18, 2025.

Excellence in Music, Literature, and Sports

In the Vocal Competition (Kundiman Category), Jazper Nartates of Comm 2-B captivated the audience and judges alike with his heartfelt rendition, earning the Champion title.

Equally triumphant in the Literary Arts Competition, Mandie Asejo of Comm 3-B delivered a powerful and emotionally charged piece, securing the Champion title in Spoken Poetry.

In the Classical Guitar Instrumental Solo, Jayson Martos of Comm 2-A impressed both judges and spectators with his technical mastery and artistry, earning the Champion title as well.

Demonstrating vocal versatility, Syrel Faye Taala of Comm 3-2 Eve won 2nd Runner-Up in both the Pop Solo Vocal Competition and the Vocal Duet Competition, adding to the department’s growing list of accolades.

Outside the performing arts, John Paul Carreon displayed athletic excellence, finishing 2nd Place in the TSU Run, proving that Communication students excel not only on stage but also in physical competition.

Bands and Dance Troupes Rule Cultural Competitions

In the musical arena, Unaligned, a band composed of Communication students, emerged as the Champion of BIGKASIN: Battle of the Bands 2025, achieving an impressive 94.33% average score. Following closely were fellow Communication students from Dizzkye, who claimed 1st Runner-Up with a 93.33% average, and Margarita, securing 2nd Runner-Up with 92.33%.

Meanwhile, the CASS Indayog dance troupe dominated the Intercollege Dance Competitions, winning both the HipHop and Contemporary Dance categories. In the HipHop division, CASS Indayog bested the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA), which placed 1st Runner-Up, and the College of Science (COS), which finished 2nd Runner-Up.

In the Contemporary Dance Competition, CASS Indayog achieved a historic three-peat victory, securing its third consecutive championship title. They were followed by Late Reaction of CBA and the College of Education (COEd), which placed 1st and 2nd Runner-Up, respectively.

Raflornito Blas, a Communication student and member of CASS Indayog, shared that the team’s mindset played a crucial role in their success.

“Tingin ko ang nagpanalo sa amin ay ‘yung intention namin to have fun doing our passion. Dahil limited ‘yung time of preparation—almost a week lang kami nag-ready dahil sa full-packed schedule namin—kaya we decided to give a fun yet creative performance and never expect anything,” Blas said.

Communication Students Shine in Pageantry and Literary Writing

In the much-anticipated Mr. and Ms. TSU 2025 pageant held on October 17 at the TSU Gymnasium, Mr. Francko Sangil and Ms. Joy Celine David, both from the Department of Communication, proudly represented the College of Arts and Social Sciences.

Ms. David impressed the judges with her poise and eloquence, finishing as 1st Runner-Up for Ms. TSU 2025, while Mr. Sangil advanced to the Top 5 of Mr. TSU 2025. Both were also recognized with the special awards Mr. and Ms. Hey Brew Hideout.

Their performance earned admiration across the university for exemplifying grace, confidence, and the true spirit of a TSUian communicator.

Adding to the Communication Department’s triumphs, CASS Gov. Clarise Ann Dacanay emerged as the Champion in the Pagsulat ng Sanaysay Competition. Her work stood out for its depth, eloquence, and intellectual insight, inspiring peers to pursue excellence in writing and creative expression.

A Legacy of Talent and Excellence

With multiple championship titles and podium finishes across music, dance, literature, athletics, and pageantry, the CASS Communication students reaffirmed their reputation as a leading creative and academic force at TSU.

Their consistent victories reflect the Department of Communication’s dedication to holistic student development, nurturing both artistic and intellectual talent through meaningful engagement in cultural and academic endeavors.

The TSU Communicators’ Guild and the Department of Communication extend their warmest congratulations to all winners for bringing pride and honor to the College and the University, continuing to uphold the legacy of CASS as the Home of Talents.
