The two-day conference aimed to empower students and educators with knowledge about the media landscape in the Philippines.
PACE President Mr. Mark Lester Del Mundo Chico inspired participants with his opening remarks.
“PMC today and tomorrow is not just a gathering; it is a reminder of our shared mission to use media not just to inform, but to inspire and empower,” he said.
Ms. Amy Perez and Ms. Winnie Cordero discussed the topic “Ganyan na po ba mag-radyo, Maem? ” They shared the story of the radio industry in the Philippines, their experiences inside the radio booth, and how radio has evolved over time.
In addition, Mr. Kriz Gazmen, head of ABS-CBN Films, shared his insights on the topic “Hello, Movie, Again,” highlighting how the film industry transformed during the pandemic.
“Dati naglalabas per month ngayon 3-4 years na lang ang pilikula,” he said, referring to the slowdown in film releases after the pandemic.
The second day featured another set of media experts who continued to inspire both students and educators.
Mr. Erick Salud, Unit Head of Dreamscape Entertainment, shared his journey as a television producer and encouraged aspiring communicators to pursue careers in the entertainment industry.
On the other hand, ABS-CBN Integrated Corporate Communications Head Mr. Kane Erol Chua and FEU Vice President for Corporate Affairs Ms. Rowena Capulong-Reyes served as speakers, discussing the power of public relations and its potential career paths.
Additionally, Mr. Jolly Estaris, head of iWant and ABS-CBN Integrated Digital Sales, discussed the Filipino-made OTT platform—iWantTFC—highlighting its upcoming user interface (UI) changes June.
Meanwhile, Mr. Leo Katigbak, former head of ABS-CBN Film Restoration and Archives, explained the detailed process of Filipino film restoration.
Moreover, Ms. Melai Cantiveros, television host and actress, engaged the audience with her talk titled “Melai Mo, Melai Ko, Melai Niya: Hosting 101 with the Pambanaang KUAntie,” where she shared the ‘KUANS’ methods in event hosting. ‘KUANS’ stands for Keeping it real, Understand deeply, Arrive prepared, Navigate the unexpected, and Support the team.
This year’s Pinoy Media Congress gathered nearly 1,000 students and educators from across the country. Now in its 20th year, the event continues to champion media literacy and foster meaningful dialogue about the evolving media landscape in the Philippines.
